Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) PDF Print E-mail

How Do You Quantify SAFE Functional Abilities?

The WorkSTEPS Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) utilized by Integrated Injury Management is unique among its peers.  The WorkSTEPS FCE coincides with the WorkSTEPS Functional Employment testing program so that clinicians can follow one set of protocols for both systems.

This FCE program was developed because WorkSTEPS recognizes the value of utilizing its comprehensive pre-injury database to evaluate post-injury status of injured workers.  This information is invaluable to the injured worker, the clinician to establish realistic treatment goals and exercises, and to the employer who wants a successful and efficient injury-management system that is truly objective.

Infomation and data gathered are evaluated and calculated automatically to ensure objective and fair evaluation and to minimize subjective opinions by treating and evaluating clinicians and case managers.  The percentiles, coefficients of variance, and other reliability and validity tests are designed to "speak for themselves", that is: to take the injured-worker's performance at face value and to objectively determine extent and reliability of effort as well as safe ability to perform work and functional activity.

When possible, job-specific functional activities, strength, lifting, and job tasks are evaluated and compared with job-specific requirements provided by the employer or evaluated by job analysis with a resulting 8-14 page report that clearly and concisely summarizes those functions that an injured-worker CAN and CANNOT do, with the assurance of a true determination of effort or lack thereof.  A valid concern of employers which now can be objectively evaluated.

This unique and efficient FCE system can be provided in numerous locations nationwide by the WorkSTEPS network and in the West, at many locations associated with Integrated Injury Management Services, Inc.
